Four Amazing 6.0L LS Engine Swaps

The GM 6.0L LS engine is popular among engine swappers. It’s a reliable engine that can easily go over 300K miles with proper maintenance. Plus, it’s easy to drop one of these engines into a vehicle.

It’s common to drop the 6.0L LS engine into trucks and performance cars. Yet, there are some interesting and unusual 6.0L LS engine swaps out there. We’ve seen this engine in a variety of vehicles, including classic cars, beefed up military vehicles, and more. Here are some of the most interesting 6.0L LS engine swaps we’ve found:

1. 1950 Custom Cadillac

If you’ve never seen a classic vehicle with an LS motor, today’s your day. A Tennessee man named John Rogers hired Griffey’s Hot Rods and Restorations to restore and modify his 1950 Cadillac. The end result was stunning, to say the least. They dropped a 6.0-liter LS engine into this Cadillac, among other amazing upgrades. We’d love to go cruising in this Caddy.

2. 2017 Jeep Wrangler Rat Rod

Get ready to see the most unique Jeep Wrangler you’ll ever see in your life. Freedom Fabworks, a shop based in Flint, Michigan, took a 2017 Wrangler and turned it into a rat rod. Yes, it’s possible! Just take a look at it here.

Freedom Fabworks loaded up this Jeep Wrangler rat rod with:

  • A 6.0L LS engine
  • A 4L80 transmission
  • 40″ wheels
  • 1-ton axles
  • Other powerful and head-turning upgrades

We completely agree with the shop’s decision to outfit this Jeep with a 6.0L LS engine. You’d be hard-pressed to find a more fitting engine for this monster.

3. 1979 Buick Regal Sport Coupe T-Type

A car enthusiast named Emelia Hartford found a 6.0L cast iron block motor at a junkyard and dropped it into her 1979 Buick Regal Sport Coupe T-Type. The trusty ol’ engine fired right up when it was all hooked up. Watch the amazing moment above.

If this isn’t a testament to the impressive durability of the 6.0L motor, we don’t know what is.

4. 2004 Mazda MX-5 Miata

We just had to include a Miata in this list! A Miata with a 6.0L LS2 motor is always something to write home about. V8miata.net user CARBoy took a 6.0L LS2 motor out of a 2006 Pontiac GTO and then put it into a 2004 Miata. He had slight issues fitting the engine into his Miata, but it all worked out in the end. He said that it was “a fun little project”. As soon as he finished the build, he drove it to the Miata Reunion at Laguna Seca. It sounds like the 1,000-mile trip went well!
