Signs That Your Ford 4R75E/4R75W Transmission Is Failing

Both the Ford 4R75E and 4R75W are robust units that should last for years. However, years of use will eventually cause it to wear out. If you experience some or all of the issues listed below, you should get your transmission professionally checked and possibly replaced:

Loss of 4th Gear Overdrive: If your transmission refuses to shift into 4th gear or slides into neutral instead of engaging that final gear, the valve body may be faulty.

Low Power and Quick Shifting: Another sign that your valve body may be faulty is when the transmission shifts too quickly through the gears or seems to have low power at slower speeds.

Slipping gears: If you experience slipping during gear shifts or generally erratic transmission behavior, get your transmission checked before it fails completely.

In general, if you notice transmission fluid leaks, grinding noises, check engine lights, or hesitation or jerking through the gears, your transmission may be failing and it could be time for a remanufactured unit.

How Much Does A 4R75E/4R75W Transmission Cost?

A fully remanufactured PPI Ford 4R75 transmission costs between $2,349 and $2,799. These prices include the standard 3-year warranty and the return of your old transmission core. A core charge of between $500 and $750 will be kept if the old transmission is not returned to PPI. Additional 5 and 7-year warranty options can also be purchased, as well as Powertrain Pure Care cover.

Can I Replace The 4R75E or 4R75W Transmission Myself?

It is technically possible to replace your own transmission, but it does require mechanical expertise and a fair amount of tools and equipment. If you are an amateur DIYer, then it is best to leave this job to professionals. Tools and equipment you may need include:

  • Car lift or heavy-duty jack stands
  • Torque wrench set
  • Breaker bar, pry bar, tube wrench
  • Additional transmission removal tools

Where Should I Buy A 4R75E/4R75W Transmission?

At PPI, we don’t just repair your transmission; we remanufacture it using upgraded or completely new parts. Every remanufactured PPI transmission comes with a new torque converter, and every 4R75 transmission also gets a brand new valve body.

Every PPI transmission also undergoes the same rigorous remanufacturing process:

  • Teardown and Triple Clean – Every transmission is disassembled, inspected, and cleaned three times. We also chase all threads and install all new bushings during this process.
  • Valve Body Rebuild and Test – Our most experienced team members rebuild and inspect each valve body before testing it using our C.A.R.S. testing system, which simulates real-world use and validates the valve body. (The valve bodies are completely new on all 4R75 units.)
  • New O-Rings, Gaskets, and Seals – Once the valve body is tested, the transmission is reassembled with all new O-rings, gaskets, and seals.
  • Dyno Testing – Our custom dyno testing machines spin and load test every transmission to verify it’s ready for the road.

What Is The Difference Between The 4R75E And 4R75W?

The 4R75W and 4R75E are almost identical in all but a few minor ways, however they are not interchangeable between vehicles. These are the main differences:

Ford 4R75E

  • Includes a turbine speed sensor to detect torque converter slip, aiding in fine-tuning shift speed and feel.
  • Has two sensors to monitor speed.

Ford 4R75W

  • Lacks the turbine speed sensor found in the 4R75E.
  • Has one sensor to monitor speed.
