Signs That Your Ford 6F35 Transmission Is Failing

While the 6F35 should last for many years, general wear and tear mean that you will eventually need to repair or replace it. In most cases, there are several warning signs that your transmission is failing.
Based on customer feedback, we’ve learned that these are some of the most common 6F35 transmission failure signs to look out for:
- Slipping Between Gears – Slow gear engagement and slipping are signs that your transmission needs attention. Get it seen to before it fails completely.
- Erratic Shifting – Changes in shift speed or refusal to engage gear can be caused by a faulty valve body.
- Rough Gear Engagement In Forward Or Reverse – Another sign that the transmission’s internals are wearing out. The cause of harsh gear engagement can be due to a failing pump, torque converter, or valve body.
- Overheating – Towing heavy loads, continuous harsh acceleration, or spending hours in slow-moving traffic can overheat the transmission, damaging other components.
Causes Of Ford 6F35 Transmission Issues

The causes for these symptoms vary greatly. Design issues with factory components and problems with the software, solenoids, and torque converters have been found to contribute to most failures.
There is currently a class action lawsuit underway for this transmission. It applies to Ford Fusion models built between 2010-2020 and Ford Escape models from 2009-2021.
Ford never issued a recall or remedied the issues with this transmission. At Powertrain Products, we address OEM design issues and common weak points of the 6F35 transmission, ensuring that your remanufactured unit is better than OEM specification.
How Much Does A 6F35 Transmission Cost?
A remanufactured Ford 6F35 transmission from Powertrain Products typically costs a little over three thousand dollars. This includes a standard 3-year warranty and the return of your old transmission core. (If you’re using this transmission for a 1-ton and up application, our 18 month, 50k mile standard Commercial Warranty will be applied to your purchase instead.) A core charge is levied if the old transmission is not returned to us. Additional 5 and 7-year warranty options can also be purchased.
Keep in mind that our remanufactured transmissions are not intended for use on trucks with modified emissions systems, deleted emissions systems, or tuned vehicles. We do offer upgraded units for that purpose (contact us for more info) however, the warranty that comes with our stock units will be voided if used in this manner.
Can I Replace The 6F35 Transmission Myself?
Replacing your transmission yourself is possible, but it demands a solid understanding of the process and access to the right tools and equipment. If you’re a casual DIYer without much experience, it’s usually best to let the professionals handle it. Some of the tools and equipment you might need include a car lift or heavy-duty jacks – and the parts themselves are hefty – so carefully consider all these factors before deciding to try the job yourself.
Where Should I Buy A 6F35 Transmission?

There are many companies offering replacement transmissions. But few remanufacture them to better than OEM specifications and offer up to a 7-year million-mile warranty. At Powertrain Products, we don’t just fix your transmission; we remanufacture it from the ground up using upgraded or completely new parts. Every transmission we sell undergoes a rigorous remanufacturing process:
Complete Teardown and Triple Cleaning – Each transmission is fully disassembled, thoroughly inspected, and cleaned three separate times. During this process, all threads are chased, and brand-new bushings are installed.
Valve Body Rebuild and Testing – Our most skilled technicians rebuild and inspect every valve body, which is then tested using our C.A.R.S. system to simulate real-world driving conditions and ensure proper functionality.
Installation of New O-Rings, Gaskets, and Seals – After the valve body passes testing, the transmission is carefully reassembled using all-new O-rings, gaskets, and seals.
Dyno Testing – Each transmission undergoes load testing on our custom dyno machines, which simulate on-road conditions to confirm performance and reliability.
