Every engine we sell is fully remanufactured to meet or exceed OEM specifications:

  • Deep Clean – To start the remanufacturing process, every engine is fully disassembled and hot tanked (cast iron) or thermally cleaned (aluminum)
  • Inspection – Magnaflux testing uses magnetic particles to inspect metal, checking for microscopic cracks and fissures that will cause long-term failure. All parts are visually inspected as well.
  • Machining and New Parts – Deck surfaces are CNC machined and new parts are added. New parts inlcude bearings, pistons, rings, lifters, oil pump, gaskets, Viton™ valve seals, freeze plugs, galley plugs and either a new timing chain (with new tensioners) or a new timing belt (with new tensioner). If an engine has a timing-driven water pump, a new pump is installed.
  • SIM Testing – Each engine is SIM tested after reassembly, with the cooling and oil systems being fully pressurized and the crank being spun at high RPM to verify compression and build quality.

Because of our rigorous remanufacturing process, we can offer the industry’s best warranties. Each engine comes with up to 7 years and 1 million miles of warranty, which can be upgraded to include Pure Care™ no-fault protection. No other engine manufacturer comes close.

      Direct Injection Cylinder Head Sealing

Because the L83 uses Direct Injection (DI), fuel is sprayed directly into the combustion chamber under immense pressure. We upgrade to heavy-duty multi-layer steel (MLS) head gaskets that withstand these extreme combustion pressures. Additionally, every cylinder head is 100% pressure-tested to detect known micro-cracks or sealing issues.

Curing Piston and Ring Oil Consumption

Loose clearances and carbon-locked piston rings lead to oil consumption in the EcoTec3 platform. We fix this by:

      • Boring the aluminum cylinders and installing upgraded hypereutectic, PTFE-coated pistons that handle DI heat and expand less, allowing much tighter piston-to-bore clearances without scuffing.
      • Using strict in-process piston circlip validation procedures, combined with updated piston sizes and rings, to eliminate oil consumption issues.

Addressing AFM Lifter Failure For Superior Oiling Operation

Active Fuel Management (AFM) lifter collapse remains a common, known failure point in the L83. We upgrade to the latest, redesigned AFM lifters for superior oiling operation, and each lifter bore undergoes a 100% diameter inspection to guarantee perfect, OE-level lifter-to-bore clearances.

      Precision-Sealed Lower Assembly

      • The crankcase assembly is 100% leak-tested to ensure the rear main seal and oil pan are perfectly tight.
      • Engines arrive with the oil pan, timing cover, and rear cover professionally pre-installed - a valuable feature given that the pan, timing cover, and rear cover require special alignment tooling.

      VVT System Correction

The L83 relies on Variable Valve Timing (VVT) for its broad torque curve. We install updated VVT components to prevent the premature wear and failure known to trigger erratic timing codes.

      Precision-Built and SIM-Tested

Powertrain Products remanufactured 5.3L L83 engines are assembled using a state-of-the-art Manufacturing Execution System (MES) that continuously monitors and records all torque specifications and in-process inspections. Each engine is thoroughly SIM-tested to verify correct compression, oil pressure and flow, torque-to-turn, and Variable Valve Timing (VVT) operation.

HERE'S WHY OUR ENGINES LEAD THE INDUSTRY

      Machining and New Parts

Precision CNC machining of deck mating surfaces ensure a perfect fit for long-lasting engine performance. Major parts replaced new including but not limited to: bearings, pistons, rings, lifters, oil pump gaskets, freeze plugs, galley plugs, and either new timing chain or belt (with new tensioners).

      Magnetic Particle Inspection

Magnaflux testing identifies microscopic cracks or fissures in ferrous components, while a visual inspection of non-ferrous components finds obvious failures.

      Disassembly and Hot Tank/Thermal Cleaning

Disassembled components are hot tanked (if iron) or thermally cleaned (if aluminium)until all deposits are removed. All intake and exhaust surfaces are cleaned an buffed.

      SIM Testing

The reassembled engine is tested for compression. For variable valve timing engines the phasers are run through a full test cycle to measure proper engagement and timing adjustment. Crank assembly is spun at 750 REM to verify quality.

      Leak Testing

Cooling and oil systems are fully pressurized to check for leaks.
