Remanufactured Transmission Buyer’s Guide

There are many ways to remanufacture a transmission. But very few can come close to the quality of a PPI remanufactured transmission. We don’t just make your transmission as good as new; we make it better by also rectifying any known faults. We use new components and conduct comprehensive testing on every part. Check out the breakdown below for a deep dive into our process.

Teardown and Triple Clean

Step one in our remanufacturing process is completely disassembling the transmission. Then, each component is inspected and cleaned manually.

The parts then go through our pass-through washer. This is a machine that cleans, degreases, and sprays the transmission components thoroughly.

Then, the transmission cases are ready for step two, which entails:

  • Case repainting
  • Thread repair and chasing
  • Installation of new bushings

We then clean the entire unit a third time to make sure that no dirt, grease, or other contaminants are present.

Valve Body Rebuild and Test

The transmission valve body is assembled and tested on our C.A.R.S. program. This is a system that simulates real-world road conditions. It ensures that the valve body assembly performs perfectly before final installation. This process helps eliminate shifting issues like harsh gear changes and improperly timed shifts.

Once the valve body has completed testing, a cell manager inspects it to ensure that it meets our strict quality standards.

Reassembly

If the transmission case and valve body have passed all inspections and tests, it is reassembled. The following parts are replaced or remanufactured in all our transmission rebuilds:

  • New O-rings installed
  • Gaskets replaced
  • Seals replaced
  • New bushings installed
  • Valve body remanufactured
  • Torque converter remanufactured
  • Transmission case repainted
  • Threads cleaned and repaired
  • Any factory faults corrected

Dyno Testing and Inspection

The last step involves a third test of the entire transmission system. We use one of five dyno machines to conduct spin and load tests. We also put the transmission through a shift parameter test that simulates a variety of gear-changing patterns.

These tests are done in hot and cold temperatures, and this can highlight any issues with shift speeds, timing, and smoothness. If the transmission performs faultlessly, it is ready to be sealed and shipped to the customer. Not Just Remanufactured: We Upgrade Your Transmission Too

Our comprehensive testing procedures set us apart from our rivals. We test and retest at every step. Each transmission hole will have three painted marks indicating that it has been inspected at every stage of the process.

But what really marks a PPI remanufactured transmission as the superior choice is that we also correct any known factory faults. Watch our video on the GM 4L80E where we go through the testing and repair procedure in detail.
